Bought four, three broke immediately. The fourth broke the next day. Expected more from Rubbermaid. Couldn’t return as I left the country and was only there to set up a new office for the weekend. Ended up asking the landlord to dispose of them whilst I went to a hardware store to find alternatives. Really upset by this waste of money and materials.

Lasting longer after troubleshooting lid
[...]Edit: there is a scan code under the lid. Scan it if you feel like you have the lid problem I did- I haven’t had any problems since but ALSO haven’t removed the lid because that problem SUCKED and now I’m routinely wiping this lid and it’s impossible to take off to wash in the sink now. That said It’s lasted us this long, and I do like the neatness of the bag holder within, holds open securely the cheap Kroger bags to the nice hefty bags and keeps their edges out of sight inside the second lid.Previous review: The stepping mech to open it for a family of 3 that are mindful of trash it lasted a week and a half. ( I don’t even have papertowels I switched to cloth! ) This (pictured) discolored part is soooo thin and it’s bent causing it to not even close it just hangs open now, until you manually close it. The lock feature is great for 18 m old, not great for the 65 lb medication caused hungry all the time dog we have. If she wanted in she’d get there -though she’d have trouble scooting it around for a while first because it’s nice and wide. It’s resistance to being opened is nearly nothing and if the dogs tip it, which hasn’t happened yet because it’s wider base which I did love. Cool concept.. but needs more plastic where it counts!

Disappointing
[...]I passed on getting one of the more expensive trash bins because I was afraid of dents. So I bought this and ended up with something that has flaws which make it inconvenient to use and will probably be busted within 6 months. Tops. The lid is so shoddy. It’s poorly constructed, loose and clunky on one end and normal on the other. Because of this, the lid has gaps so it doesn’t quite close flat. You also have to click the outer part of the lid in order to get it to stay up so you can get a bag in or out. It’s just plastic snapping against itself. It’s so dumb. The worst is when you open it. The metal piece that pushes the lid up from the foot pedal comes out of the track and gets stuck under the lip of the lid so it stays up. It has. Loud click when you open it — that’s it getting stuck — and then a loud click when you push the lid to go back down. But you’re not supposed to have to push the lid back down. That’s the entire purpose of a foot pedal operated trash bin — so it is hands free with a properly fitting lid.I also put in a half full (Kirkland brand) 13 gallon bag of trash and I had to rearrange the trash just to get the bag to go in. It’s molded plastic inside and I think some of that is taking up space that could be just open for garbage. Which again, kind of the point of trash bins. It’s disappointing and I’m so fed up with dealing with crap trash bins but I also don’t feel like going through the hassle of returning this so idk I’ll keep it until it breaks. Which probably won’t be long. For $70 this is a horrible quality thing.

Looks Good but…
[...]Can looks good but keeping the lid open is tedious

The Bee’s Knees of Recycling
[...]I love this waste disposal contraption. Prematurely done with half a sandwich? Step, swish, done! No need for COVID fears with this lid.- Keeps the cat out- Keeps the smells in- Keeps the hands clean- Bags fit perfectly snug, and lock in place- Those stupid stretchy trash bags suck less in this can. It’s a lot easier to convince the girlfriend to fill up the freaking bag before ordering its removal from the kitchen.Cons- I thought the can was metal, and it’s not… It appears to be… Rubbermaid. (Metal lid)- The lid sticks open when I put the pedal to the floor. I thought I just needed to learn how to use it, but I’m not finding a user manual. I’ve not spent time playing with the sliding lock switch, so that may just be mid-switched. I’m not going to update this review when I find the answer… I’m not that committed to sharing my experiences.ConclusionExcept for the absence of wheels, this can may be ideal for short term storage of a disassembled medium-sized body. There’s a good balance in flex, and strength in the can itself. The metal lid is ideal for squeezing down overflow without getting your hands dirty, and the lid closes tight enough to help significantly with smell. Don’t count on the clocking mechanism to keep prying eyes out; that’s not it’s purpose. The slide lock is more so specifically for holding open the lid, which in itself is kind of awesome. I’d recommend this to friends, fam, and strangers (Y’all). I very likely purchase more of these as my household disposal demands increase.

Great Trash Can!! – I can finally get the garbage bags out!!
[...]I’ve had a lot of these garbage cans over the years and they all seem to have one problem – it’s hard to get the full garbage bags out. The cans are sealed so that there is suction preventing you from getting the bag out. Not this one, it works great. The last trash can I had was an automatic opener and it worked ok, but eventually fell apart. I wanted something simple and there were several negative reviews about this one. They seemed to mostly be related to the lock feature, which seemed odd to me. The can looked good and the price was right, so I got one.It does have a couple of quirks, and the lock feature seems odd, but I really don’t use the lock feature so it doesn’t matter to me. I can open the whole lid, and it stays put while I take out the garbage bag (very easily I might add), and then stays open while I put in the replacement. I don’t use the lock feature and don’t know what it is really for, so if that’s keeping you from getting this then just go ahead and get it. It is a bit difficult to put in the garbage bags as they have to stretch to fit over the can but I haven’t torn one yet and it fits so well that you don’t see parts of the bag hanging over the edge. One thing mentioned by several reviewers is that the lid doesn’t always close. I found that as well, but then looked at the instructions and it said to push the lid down the first time. Once I did that, there was no problem with it closing, so I guess it does pay to actually read the directions.Overall, I’m as happy as I can be about a trash can. It’s not annoying, and I can take out the bags easily and it looks ok in the kitchen. You can’t really ask much more of a plastic trash can.
